| The Old Beaton House, East Point, PEI
The very first time we ever came to PEI was in July of 1993. Isaac was 1 year
old. We were camping in tents at Campbell's Cove and Red Point, with Dirk van Susteren and
MariaLisa Calta, and family. Driving around the East end of the island, I was interested in the
numerous abandoned and neglected old farmhouses. One day, while buying potatoes
from John Cheverie, a local farmer in East Point, I happened to ask him what
was going on with the old house next door to him, and found out it was for sale.
Well, we found the real estate office in Souris, and ended up buying the old
"Angus Beaton Homestead" by the end of our 1 week camping trip. We have been
staying there every summer since, anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 1/2 months a year,
usually about 4 weeks. Over the years we have made the following improvements:
new foundation, new elecrical entrance and panel, new roof, new septic system,
repaired siding and trim, painted trim, painted and wallpapered inside, and
fixed up the larger shed into a bunkhouse with sleeping loft.
